Royals owner David Glass reportedly in talks to sell team

David Glass

Kansas City Royals owner David Glass is in talks to sell the team, according to a report.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Jayson Stark reported on Tuesday that Glass is in talks with a group led by Kansas City native John Sherman about selling the team. Sherman, who is a Kansas City businessman, has been a minority owner of the Cleveland Indians since 2016.

Glass, who turns 84 next week, is the former CEO of Wal-Mart. He became CEO and chairman of the Royals in 1993 and purchased the team from Ewing Kauffman’s estate in 2000 for $96 million.

The Royals have been terrible for most of Glass’ time as team owner. They have only had four winning seasons since he bought the team in 2000. They reached the World Series in consecutive years in 2014 and 2015 and won it all the latter season, but have since gone back into rebuilding mode and are terrible once again.

A new owner for the team would probably be a welcomed development for MLB.
