Fans were quick to roast Team USA manager Mark DeRosa for once again failing to lead his squad to World Baseball Classic glory.
Team USA lost to Venezuela on Tuesday in a 3-2 pitcher’s duel at loanDepot Park in Miami, Fla. It was the second consecutive time the Americans finished as runner-ups on their home soil.
Bryce Harper tied the game at 2-2 for Team USA with two outs in the bottom of the 8th inning. But Venezuela answered back with an RBI double off the bat of Eugenio Suarez, which gave them the decisive go-ahead run they needed to win the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

Several fans clowned DeRosa with the same joke that the Team USA skipper may have thought the WBC final was a best-of-three series (it is not).

Fans were making fun of DeRosa for his embarrassing gaffe during pool play, when he admitted that he had misunderstood the tiebreaker rules. The mental mistake nearly cost Team USA a spot in the quarterfinals after the squad lost a critical pool play matchup against Italy.
DeRosa had a chance to turn his admission into a funny anecdote had Team USA finished off a successful run to the WBC title. Instead, it’s a moment of infamy that will probably sit with DeRosa for the rest of his days.
