Tests confirm nerve issue for Steven Matz, no structural damage
New York Mets pitcher Steven Matz returned home following his start against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday to undergo tests on his pitching arm, and the results sound like they were positive from a long-term perspective.
According to Jon Heyman of Fancred, tests confirmed that is is a nerve issue that has been affecting Matz — not any type of structural damage to his elbow. While the left-hander is likely to miss at least one start, the Mets are not overly concerned about the injury.
Tests on Steven Matz confirmed it is indeed a nerve issue that's been bothering him a couple starts, not his elbow. So that is a relief for the Mets. He is likely to miss a start or so to be cautious while he receives conservative treatment.

Matz underwent surgery to remove the lunar nerve in his left arm during the 2017 season, and it’s unclear if the latest issue is related to that. He also suffered a more unusual injury early last season that resulted in him missing some time.
In seven starts this season, Matz is 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA.
