For some of you baseball fans out there, the name Delino DeShields may ring a bell. He spent 13 seasons in the majors with the Montreal Expos, Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, St. Louis Cardinals, and Chicago Cubs.
His son, Delino DeShields Jr., is now working his way up through the minors in attempt to make it to the big leagues himself. He was selected 8th overall in the 2010 Amateur Draft by the Houston Astros and now plays for the Corpus Christi Hooks of the Texas League.
During Friday’s game, DeShields was unable to get out of the way and took a 90 mph pitch to the side of the face. Fortunately, he was able to walk off under his own power. The aftermath, however, is a non displaced maxillary sinus fracture and an extremely swollen face.

Yikes.
After an incident like that, it would be hard to blame a player for not wanting to step in a batter’s box again. Hopefully, DeShields has a full and speedy recovery.
