Tigers may play Andrew Romine at all 9 positions in same game next week
The Detroit Tigers don’t have a lot left to play for, but manager Brad Ausmus could give the fans something cool to end the season.
Ausmus says he is giving thought to having Andrew Romine play all nine positions in the same game. If that were to happen, Ausmus has his eye on the Tigers’ season finale at Minnesota on Oct. 1.
Andrew Romine will not play all 9 positions in a game this week, Ausmus said. If it happens, likely last game at MIN if Twins clinch early.

Four players in modern baseball history have played all nine positions in a game. Shane Halter, in 2000 for the Tigers, was the latest to do it.
Romine has seen action at all positions except catcher during his career. He is the team’s emergency catcher, so it’s plausible that he could suit up behind the dish for an inning, though that might be the biggest challenge.
Ausmus doesn’t take the matter lightly and knows some would question whether they are respecting the integrity of the game by pulling off such a stunt. He said last week that he would talk with the opposing team’s manager to make sure they were fine with it before going through with the plan.
This season alone, Romine has played every position for the Tigers except catcher.
