Troy Tulowitzki and his agent will meet this week to discuss whether they will approach the Colorado Rockies about requesting a trade.
The New York Post’s Joel Sherman talked with Tulo’s agent Paul Cohen who said it would be “silly” for them not to discuss the possibility of asking for a trade. It was a topic they discussed multiple times over the offseason.
Tulo’s decision to remain with the Rockies looked prudent when they started the season 7-2 and 11-8, but reality has set in now that the team is on a 9-game losing streak and 11-17. Tulowitzki is said to be frustrated with the team’s start.
Multiple teams could be interested in trading for Tulo, who is owed $94 million through 2020 and has a $15 million club option for 2021 that includes a $4 million buyout.
The Yankees have always been named as a likely future home for Tulo and appear to be his dream team, but the Post says they are unlikely to have interest.
Tulowitzki is batting .307 with a .495 slugging percentage this season. He has an .889 career OPS. A report over the offseason said the Rockies would be willing to trade Tulo and Carlos Gonzalez. We’ll see if they finally agree to do so.
