Twins making change with their front office
The Minnesota Twins are making a big change with their front office.
The team announced Friday that they have mutually parted ways with general manager Thad Levine.
Levine had served as the Twins’ general manager for the past eight seasons, but his contract had expired and the sides decided to move on.
Though Levine is leaving Minnesota, Derek Falvey will remain in his role as the Twins’ President of Baseball Operations.
Levine was hired by the Twins in November 2016, months after Falvey had been hired by the organization. The two signed 5-year extensions after the Twins’ 101-win season in 2019. Only Falvey was brought back after the contracts for both men expired.
The Twins made the playoffs in 2017, the first full season under the leadership of Levine and Falvey. They won the AL Central in both 2019 and the shortened 2020 season. The team also won the AL Central last season, but they slipped to 82-80 this season, which was a disappointing mark.
The Twins have not advanced past the divisional round of the playoffs since winning the World Series in 1991.
