Video shows classy move by fan who caught Cal Raleigh’s 60th homer

The fan who caught Cal Raleigh’s 60th home run ball on Wednesday night pulled an incredibly honorable move after doing so.

The Seattle Mariners star catcher Cal Raleigh joined the history books with homers No. 59 and 60 on the season on Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Wash. Raleigh became just the seventh player in MLB history to reach the 60-homer mark as well as the first-ever catcher to do so and the first-ever switch hitter to do so. Meanwhile, fans had some terrific reactions over social media to the latest impressive feat in Raleigh’s unforgettable 2025 season.

But an even bigger story might have been the immensely classy move that the Mariners fan who came down with No. 60 pulled. Video shot from the stands during the game went viral showing the adult fan, wearing a Seattle hat and jersey, holding up the ball in triumph. Eventually though, the clip showed that the fan ended up giving the ball away to a young kid who was in the area (also wearing a Mariners jersey).

The kid and his father were then safely escorted away by security with Raleigh’s 60th home run ball. Meanwhile, those seated in the area gave a loud ovation to the fan who initially caught the ball (with the fan removing his cap to acknowledge the applause from the crowd).

You can see the video at the link here.

It doesn’t get any classier or selfless than that from the fan. That ball was undoubtedly worth a whole boatload of money and will probably be headed to Cooperstown when all is said and done. But the fan was simply happy with being able to provide a forever memory to a young kid (while also getting to watch the Mariners clinch their first division title since 2001).

That video also marks a breath of fresh air for the baseball world, which was probably still up in arms over the exact opposite kind of incident occurring earlier this month with the notorious “Phillies Karen” episode.
