Zack Greinke not expected to miss more than two starts

Zack Greinke

The injury news on Zack Greinke is positive.

An MRI on Greinke’s abdomen came back clean and he is only expected to miss two starts at the most, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.

Greinke removed himself from a start on Wednesday in the eighth inning of a shutout due to the injury. He ended up getting the win in the game, but the Diamondbacks were concerned about his status.

The 35-year-old is in his fourth season with Arizona since signing a 6-year, $206.5 million deal and is in the middle of his best season with them. He is 6-1 with a 2.78 ERA and 0.88 WHIP.

Arizona, which entered Friday 24-20 and second in the NL West, just put Taijuan Walker on the injured list, so their pitching would be thin for a week if they also need to put Greinke on the IL.
