Allen Iverson no-showed Hall of Fame event for high school students
Allen Iverson is having some serious scheduling issues this week with his Hall of Fame induction and the events surrounding it.
Iverson was expected to make an appearance at the High School of Commerce in Springfield, Mass., on Friday, and students anxiously awaited in the auditorium while a Philadelphia 76ers employee took Snapchat videos with the crowd. Tom Westerholm of MassLive.com reports that the students chanted “We want A-I” and cheered every time it seemed like Iverson might have arrived.
And, wouldn’t you know it, The Answer never showed.
“We were just expecting him to show up, and due to some circumstances, he didn’t,” Commerce’s Chief Communications Officer Azell Cavaan said. “…The organizers said there were circumstances that came up beyond their control. That’s all we were told.”
Sheryl Swoopes, one of Iverson’s fellow 2016 Hall of Fame inductees, and Hall of Famer Calvin Murphy also spoke at the event. Cavaan commended them for giving “terrific” speeches, but it seems clear the students were most looking forward to hearing from Iverson.
Between missing the high school event and the issues he had before his press conference on Thursday, A.I. has been so very A.I. this week.
