Anthony Davis’ father does not want son playing for Celtics due to Isaiah Thomas treatment

Anthony Davis

We might have to cross the Boston Celtics off Anthony Davis’ trade list if one person has his way.

Anthony Davis Sr. spoke with ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne and told her he wouldn’t want his son to play for the Celtics due to their treatment of Isaiah Thomas. Thomas was a leader and star player for the team who helped take them to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2017 after averaging a career-high 28.9 points per game. Despite that, the Celtics traded him that offseason for Kyrie Irving while Thomas was recovering from a hip injury.

“I would never want my son to play for Boston after what they done to Isaiah Thomas,” Anthony Davis Sr. told ESPN. “No loyalty. Guy gives his heart and soul and they traded him.”

Davis Sr. clarified that he was not speaking for his son, but merely sharing his personal opinion.

Davis still has another season left on his contract after this year, so a team that acquires him would get him for a season and a half. But that wouldn’t be the case for Boston. Due to the “Rose Rule,” they would only be able to acquire Davis after the season, and only if Kyrie Irving is not on the roster. Davis reportedly views the Celtics as a potential 1-year rental option, while Celtics GM Danny Ainge reportedly is open to acquiring Davis without a long-term contract extension in place.
