Anthony Edwards knows he has had a problem with technical fouls this season, and the Minnesota Timberwolves star is promising that it will not be an issue as the playoffs begin.

Edwards told reporters Thursday that he plans to be on his best behavior once the Timberwolves open their first-round playoff series against the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday. Edwards essentially pledged that he would not be getting any technical fouls and would be “super quiet” toward officials.

“Yeah, I won’t get no techs,” Edwards said. “I won’t say anything. I’ll be super quiet. One hundred percent.”

Edwards received 17 technical fouls during the regular season. Initially, he seemed to have acquired his 18th, which would have landed him a one-game suspension for the season finale, but that was rescinded on appeal.

Technical foul counts reset at the start of the playoffs. Any player who receives seven technical fouls during the postseason would receive a one-game suspension, so Edwards has plenty of leeway, but he certainly will not want to risk any ejections, much less a suspension.

For the Timberwolves to beat the Lakers, they will need Edwards to be at his best. He averaged 27.6 points per game on the season, and he would be well-served trying not to get caught up in officiating controversies.
