Austin Rivers had great ‘Kindergarten Cop’ moment with Arnold Schwarzenegger

Austin Rivers once had a great “Kindergarten Cop” moment with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Rivers was a guest on “Unsportsmanlike” on ESPN Radio with Evan Cohen, Chris Canty and Michelle Smallmon on Friday. Rivers, who played 11 seasons in the NBA, was telling the hosts about famous babysitter experiences he had. He shared the story about how Schwarzenegger once watched him as a child.

“I’ve had a couple of strange sitters,” Rivers revealed to the hosts. “My parents were at an event where [Schwarzenegger] was at, and he was there with kids. My dad and my mom went to go do something. I think my mom had asked [Schwarzenegger], ‘can you watch [my son] for a little bit. We’re just going to be gone for 20-30 minutes.’ I don’t know (all the details). I was there with [Schwarzenegger].”

Rivers stressed that Schwarzenegger wasn’t a babysitter who came over to his house to watch him, but rather Arnold looked after him once at an event. In that regard, it sounds more like Schwarzenegger was acting similarly to the kind of role he displayed when he played a substitute kindergarten teacher in the 1990 movie “Kindergarten Cop.

Rivers’ father is Doc Rivers, who played in the NBA from 1983-1996. Rivers has since coached four different NBA teams. So his circle of people who might watch his son would certainly be famous folks. And Austin was born in 1992, so if he was watched by Arnold as a child, it probably would have been when he was a movie star and before he served as governor of California.

Now, both Doc and Austin are working in the broadcasting/TV realm.
