Brett Brown on the hot seat for Sixers?

Brett Brown Sixers

Brett Brown has posted a horrendous record since taking over as head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, but that was never really a concern. The team was constructed to be bad, as tanking was essentially part of the rebuilding plan. However, now in his fourth season as the team’s head coach, Philly is at a different point in “The Process,” and more is expected.

The Sixers are off to an 0-6 start this season, coming off the heels of a 10-72 season. A column from the Philly Inquirer’s Bob Brookover suggests that Brown may be on the hot seat because new management doesn’t have the same allegiances to the coach as the old regime. From Brookover’s column:

In his first full season as team president and general manager, Bryan Colangelo does not have the same allegiance to Brown that former GM Sam Hinkie might have. It is conceivable that Colangelo could push ownership for a change at the coaching position if the 76ers get off to the 0-18 or 0-17 starts the team endured in the previous two seasons.

Brookover does believe the Sixers would give Brown a chance to coach the team with No. 1 pick Ben Simmons active before making such a move. Simmons suffered a fracture in his foot during training camp and may be able to return in January.

Brown, a former Spurs assistant, is 47-205 in his coaching career (.187). Now that the team’s objective is to win, Brown needs to start producing results, otherwise he may find his job status in jeopardy.
