Giannis Antetokounmpo’s long-term plans remain unclear, but one Milwaukee Bucks writer is making a bold statement about what he expects to happen.

Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel cited sources saying that Antetokounmpo has no intention of playing elsewhere, and that stance has not changed even after the Bucks lost in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Owczarski went further on social media, suggesting that not only will Antetokounmpo “not be traded this summer,” but the likelihood is that the star forward will remain with the Bucks for his entire career.

@msjnba.bsky.social First: Giannis will not be traded this summer. The greater likelihood is, well, never. Second: These are the unsexy aka realistic conversations. He will require another supermax. So, yeah, the ACTUAL mechanics of this are very, very clunky for teams.

Reports this week suggested that Antetokounmpo was open to evaluating options outside the Bucks for the first time. Even if that is the case, it is hardly a guarantee of a trade, though teams would quickly line up if he were available.

Antetokounmpo signed a supermax extension with the Bucks in 2023. He is under contract through the 2026-27 season and has a $62.8 million player option for 2027-28. The team can hold onto him even if he does want out, but there are no clear indications that he is agitating for a move at this point.
