It may be time for the Phoenix Suns to start prepping the banquet hall for the return of The Point God.
Sam Amick of The Athletic reported on Monday that Suns star Chris Paul is likely to return sooner than his original six-to-eight week timetable, which would have placed his return on Apr. 3 at the earliest. Amick adds that Paul could even return as soon as Wednesday (March 23) against the Minnesota Timberwolves but that the Suns do not have any reason to rush him back.
The 36-year-old Paul has not played since the All-Star break after fracturing his right thumb. The NBA-leading Suns have not missed in a beat in Paul’s absence though. Cam Payne has slotted in seamlessly as the team’s starting point guard, and Aaron Holiday has provided quality minutes off the bench.
The Suns have all but clinched the best record in the league at 58-14 with the next best team a full nine games back with ten games left to go. As for Paul, he recently revealed one of his secrets to longevity in the NBA. That may have helped him here in outperforming his recovery timeline.
