Desmond Bane throws shade at Grizzlies’ ‘dungeon’ practice facility

Orlando Magic guard Desmond Bane was not the biggest fan of his old team’s practice facility.

Bane was traded to the Magic last week in a deal that stunned most of the NBA world. Bane had previously spent his first five seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies.

The TCU alum’s old post about the Magic’s practice facility resurfaced after the trade went public. In 2022, Bane reposted photos of Orlando’s state-of-the-art practice facility, claiming Memphis’ own facility “needed” a similar upgrade.

I think it’s safe to say Desmond Bane is still a big fan of the Orlando Magic facilities.

Bane got what he wanted, but probably not in the way he had been expecting back then. On Tuesday, reporters asked Bane to share his first impressions of his new practice grounds.

“[The Magic facility] is different, bro. The one in Memphis, we didn’t have one window. We joked around and called it the dungeon.

“This is a breath of fresh air. You can literally step outside and get a breath of fresh air and eat on the patio. There’s an indoor and outdoor training facility. All the bells and whistles are in here.”

The Magic’s AdventHealth Training Center is just three years old. On the other hand, the Grizzlies’ practice facility inside FedExForum first opened its doors in 2004. Magic star Paolo Banchero was still in diapers at the time.

Bane will need to get the most out of the Magic practice facility if he wants to live up to the expensive price tag Orlando paid to get him. The 6’5″ guard has averaged 17.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists through his first five seasons.

Bane has raised his assist numbers to over five in each of his last two campaigns. Orlando will need him to show off his playmaking chops as the lead guard alongside Banchero and Franz Wagner.
