Draymond Green pulls ‘Cool story, Glenn’ shirts from his website

Last week, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green began selling merchandise on his website that said “Cool Story, Glenn” on it. The joke started after Green was bumped by Los Angeles Clippers guard Dahntay Jones during a postgame interview earlier this month.

When asked about the bump, Green took a shot at Jones for being a reserve player and said he was not about to give Jones the reaction he was looking for. Clippers coach Doc Rivers later mocked Green after Jones was fined $10,000, joking that the bump was “too hard” for Draymond.

Green was later informed of Rivers’ criticism, to which he simply responded, “Cool story, Glenn.” As many of you know, Glenn is Rivers’ first name. All of that led to this:

Green released his “Cool Story, Glenn” line of shirts on Friday.

“A lot of fans kept asking me for it, so the person who runs my store thought that it would be a good idea,” he explained, via Diamond Leung of the Bay Area News group. “It’s not for a lack of respect. I respect him. It’s fun. Throughout the course of the season, you find things that’s funny. You have to. It’s just fun. It’s no disrespect.”

Rivers took the joke in stride, but he agreed when Ben Bolch of the Los Angeles Times implied he should be seeing some of the profits from Green’s merchandise sales.

“I should, for sure,” Rivers said over the weekend. “Like I said earlier, I love that I’m on his mind.”

Unfortunately, the fun is over. Leung reported on Monday that Green has pulled the “Cool Story, Glenn” shirts from his website because he did not want them to be misinterpreted. It seems to me like there was only one way to interpret the saying, but apparently Green thought better of it. Given some of the other great quotes we have heard Green come out with, we’re confident this won’t be the last we hear from him.
