Dwight Howard’s ex charged with child neglect in case with their son
Dwight Howard was accused of being a deadbeat dad by one of the mothers of his children over a year ago, and that woman is now facing a child neglect charge.
Royce Reed, the mother of Howard’s son Braylon, turned herself into police in Orange County, Fla., on Thursday. According to documents obtained by Radar, Reed has been charged with neglect of a child, which is a felony.
The documents state that Braylon, who is 14, has been working with professionals to address troubling incidents he has had. A judge ordered the child to abide by a certain set of rules, one of which was that he cannot hang out with kids who are two years younger than him without an adult present. Braylon apparently broke the rules, and Reed is being held responsible.
Braylon was interviewed by police about the accusations. He was asked when he last saw Howard, and he said it was “sometime during the 2020 quarantine.” It was around that time that Reed accused Howard of neglecting Braylon. Howard and Braylon do not get along, and Braylon filmed a video calling out Howard for being an absentee father.
Howard, who is said to have five children by five different women, responded to the allegations from Reed and his son.
Reed and Howard have had issues for years. They appeared to have worked out their differences for the sake of their son several years ago, but obviously the relationship still is not in a good place.
Reed accused Howard of physically abusing Braylon at one point, but the eight-time All-Star was cleared by investigators.
