Dwight Howard traded by Wizards to Grizzlies
The Memphis Grizzlies continue to be extremely active in the trade market.
The Grizzlies on Friday acquired Dwight Howard in a trade with the Washington Wizards, as first reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania. Washington is getting CJ Miles as part of the trade.
Howard signed a two-year deal with Washington for just under $11 million last year. He only played in nine games last season due to injuries and opted into the second year of the deal for $5.6 million.
Miles is making $8.7 million in the final season of a three-year, $25 million deal.
The trade saves Memphis about $3.1 million. The Grizzlies are planning to waive or buy out Howard, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. We’re guessing he will end up bought out due to a lack of interest on the trade market.
In addition to Howard, the Grizzlies have acquired Kyle Korver, Andre Iguodala, Grayson Allen and Jae Crowder in trades this offseason. Korver has already been flipped to Phoenix.
Memphis also reportedly waived Avery Bradley in a cost-cutting move.
