The Memphis Grizzlies may be cooked in their first-round playoff series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, but Ja Morant is at least providing some entertaining moments along the way.
Memphis fell to Oklahoma City in Game 2 on Tuesday, losing by another blowout final score (118-99). As a result, the Grizzlies now head back home facing an 0-2 series deficit.
But there was at least one bright moment for Memphis fans during the contest — Ja Morant’s continued war against gravity. The Grizzlies star Morant had a breathtaking play during the third quarter on a Thunder fast break.
OKC big man Chet Holmgren was handling the ball in transition after a rebound and took it all the way to the other basket for a layup attempt. But Morant, who was hot in pursuit all along, pumped up his moon shoes and swatted away the Holmgren shot near its apex. Check it out.
For the record, Morant is 6-foot-2 and Holmgren is 7-foot-1. But you wouldn’t know it from that sequence as Morant darn near hit his head on the roof of Paycom Center to get to that shot attempt (though Morant may admittedly have gotten away with a goaltend there).
The two-time NBA All-Star Morant is known for these kinds of rebellions against the laws of physics. Even more impressive though is that Morant suffered an ugly ankle injury during a game just one week ago … and yet is still kangaroo-ing around the place like that.
But that is where the good news ends for the Grizzlies. They were trounced by the Thunder in a record-setting Game 1 blowout and failed to provide much hope in Game 2 either that they can avoid ultimately getting swept.
