John Wall says Lakers threw a high school defense at him
John Wall had a monster game in the Washington Wizards’ win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday and was such a force the Lakers had to dig deep to stop him.
Wall said after the 128-110 win that the Lakers used a box-and-one zone against him, which is a defensive look he hadn’t seen since high school.
Lakers went to a box-and-one zone tonight. John Wall said he hasn’t played against that since high school

The box-and-one zone is a setup that puts four players in a zone at each corner of the key, while a player at the top plays man-to-man against the dominant ball-scorer. Wall said it was effective at first because it took him a few minutes to figure out.
Wall shot 16/27 for 40 points and 14 assists in the win. The Wizards are now 12-18 on the season, but 1-0 since trading Austin Rivers and Kelly Oubre.
