LeBron James may need to have a peace talk upon his arrival in Philadelphia.
The stunning news broke on Friday morning that the superstar star forward James has decided to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency. The long wait for a decision is now over as James heads over to The City of Brotherly Love on a two-year contract for a modest salary.
Now the 76ers have one of the best projected starting lineups in the NBA as James will be slated to team up with Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, Jaylen Brown, and Joel Embiid. But James does have some awkward history with one of those new co-stars — the former NBA Finals MVP Brown.
Basketball fans will recall that Brown, who arrived on the 76ers in a stunning trade with the Boston Celtics a few weeks ago, once made some shady remarks about James’ son Bronny. While attending a 2024 Summer League game as a fan, Brown was caught on camera saying that he did not believe Bronny was an NBA-caliber player.
LeBron certainly took note of those comments from Brown. During an interview last season, LeBron profanely called out Brown over what Brown had said about Bronny some time ago.
Now just five months after LeBron’s public call-out of Brown, the two are about to be teammates in Philadelphia. While their awkward past should become a non-issue pretty quickly, LeBron may still have some real concerns about one of his other new 76ers co-stars.
