New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns recently revealed the amusing way he discovered that Jeremy Sochan had joined the team.
After the San Antonio Spurs released the 22-year-old forward, clearing waivers, Sochan agreed to sign a rest-of-season minimum deal with the Knicks, bolstering their frontcourt depth and defensive versatility amid their strong 35-20 Eastern Conference standing.
Sochan, the No. 9 pick in the 2022 draft, had spent four seasons in San Antonio, appearing in 212 games with averages of 10.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. His role diminished this season due to the emergence of rookie Carter Bryant and other roster shifts, leading to limited minutes and a bench role.
To announce his new chapter, Sochan posted a meme video featuring a rain-soaked Times Square scene set to a person incorrectly (and horribly) singing Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind,” playfully embracing his move to New York.
Towns, in his second season with the Knicks, learned about the signing not through team channels or official announcements, but directly from Sochan’s post.
The reaction captured the surprise and humor of finding out about a new teammate via social media, adding a lighthearted moment to the roster addition.
Teammate Josh Hart also chimed in playfully, highlighting the excitement around Sochan’s arrival as the Knicks push for a deep playoff run.
