The Houston Rockets traded for Kevin Durant as he enters the final season of his contract, but there is some home that the two sides could come to a long-term agreement.
In an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” Monday, ESPN’s Shams Charania revealed that he expects Durant and the Rockets to begin discussions on a long-term contract extension soon.
“That will be a conversation. I do expect Kevin Durant, his business manager Rich Kleiman, and the Rockets to have those formal discussions on an extension. I don’t know if it’ll be this week, but I expect at some point in July, in August, that’s a conversation that will happen.
“This is a partnership. I think there’s a goal in mind here to end his career in Houston on both sides.”

Considering Durant worked with the Phoenix Suns on a trade destination, it would be a surprise if he did not have at least some interest in sticking around Houston for years to come. He turns 37 in September, and this could realistically be his last stop.
Durant probably knew this was coming, and the Rockets are likely prepared to do what it takes to keep him. It seems like there is a decent chance he could have a new contract sorted out by the start of next season.
