Garnett, 40, is set to earn $8 million this season.
The aging big man appeared in just 38 games last season for the Timberwolves, averaging 3.2 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. He was brought in to provide leadership for the young Minnesota team.
The Timberwolves had been awaiting word from Garnett on whether or not the former NBA MVP would retire.
