Report: Kyrie Irving has grown ‘disengaged and detached’ from Celtics
The Boston Celtics have been in a bad spot lately, and Kyrie Irving’s mood has apparently deteriorated along with it.
According to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, Irving has grown “disengaged and detached” from others in the Boston Celtics’ organization, with the change in demeanor happening around the time that speculation about his future hit a fever pitch. One source added that there is a belief among some members of the organization that his only real friend on the team is second-year forward Jayson Tatum.
Irving has reportedly grown frustrated with coverage of his upcoming free agency decision, and his mood began to decline around the time he began to be asked about potentially joining the New York Knicks this summer. The comments that he made around this time seemingly cast doubt on his future in Boston and sparked more speculation, which does not seem to have helped matters.
Irving’s frustration has been obvious as the Celtics have nosedived in the last few weeks. It will, ironically, only spark more questions and speculation about his future that he so hates, and it will stay that way especially as long as Boston isn’t winning.
