The Los Angeles Lakers have an extensive list of potential replacements for Byron Scott, and it includes a few big names.
According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, the list of potential targets includes Warriors assistant Luke Walton, Spurs assistant Ettore Messina, former head coaches Jeff Van Gundy and David Blatt, and a group of high-profile college coaches that includes Kevin Ollie, Jay Wright, Roy Williams, Tom Izzo, and John Calipari.
Some of these names sound like pipe dreams. Ollie told ESPN’s Andy Katz that it would take “something very special” to get him to leave UConn. Williams is 65, has had health scares, and is almost certainly not leaving North Carolina. Izzo has spurned better opportunities before, while Calipari is about to be given the chance to coach his son at Kentucky.

Walton is the obvious choice, but he’s reportedly said no to the Knicks already. Given that he played for the Lakers, however, their position may be a different story.
