Lakers eyeing Mo Speights signing?

The Los Angeles Lakers may have another former Golden State Warrior in their sights.

Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype reported on Wednesday that Lakers head coach Frank Vogel was among a group of several NBA staffers in attendance for a private workout in Las Vegas featuring veteran big man Marreese Speights. Kennedy also noted that Vogel used to coach Speights on the Orlando Magic.

The 31-year-old Speights, a former NBA champion, has been out of the league since his run with Orlando in 2017-18. He did play last year in China though, posting 22.7 points and 7.5 rebounds a game for the Guangzhou Long-Lions.

The Lakers re-signed JaVale McGee and brought in DeMarcus Cousins this offseason (not to mention their trade for Anthony Davis), but they could use another big off the bench, especially one who can space the floor. For what it’s worth though, Speights did have a feud of sorts with LeBron James years ago.
