Lakers interested in trading for Orlando’s DJ Augustin?

The Los Angeles Lakers are in need of another ball-handler off the bench, and that pursuit could lead them to explore the trade market.

Sean Deveney of Heavy.com reported this week that the Lakers have inquired about a number of possible veteran backup point guards and mentions DJ Augustin of the Orlando Magic as one potential target that could become available via trade.

Augustin, who recently turned 32, is averaging a productive 10.6 points and 4.8 assists in 26.1 minutes per game for Orlando. He is also a career 38.0 percent three-point shooter and is in the final year of his contract.

Orlando just lost young defensive star Jonathan Isaac for the next two months with a knee injury and don’t appear to be going anywhere at 16-19. They also need to find more long-term minutes for former No. 1 overall pick Markelle Fultz, who plays the same position as Augustin. As for the Lakers, there may be a better option lurking as a free agent, but Augustin would certainly help.
