Markelle Fultz refutes injury claim by trainer

Markelle Fultz

Markelle Fultz has refuted a claim by his trainer that he is still injured and not fully healthy.

Following the Philadelphia 76ers’ loss to the Brooklyn Nets over the weekend, Fultz was the subject of jokes on social media for a shot he attempted during the fourth quarter.

Among those to come to Fultz’s defense was his trainer, Drew Hanlen. In a tweet that has since been deleted, Hanlen alleged Fultz is still struggling with his health.

“You don’t know his situation. he’s still not healthy,” Hanlen wrote, as captured by Philly.com.

Fultz battled a troublesome shoulder injury last season that only allowed him to play in 14 games. When he did play, his jumpshot did not resemble the one he displayed at Washington that helped him become the No. 1 overall pick in last year’s NBA Draft.

On Tuesday, Fultz downplayed Hanlen’s remarks and insisted that no one in the NBA is truly 100 percent.

Fultz has played in all 11 of the Sixers’ games so far this season, which is good news. However, until Fultz improves the 39 percent he is shooting from the floor and 31 percent from behind the three-point line, there will be some who will suggest his shoulder still isn’t right.
