Michael Porter Jr. just won a title with the Denver Nuggets last season, and now his younger brother is joining another recent NBA champion.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Friday that the Toronto Raptors are signing Jontay Porter to a two-way contract. Jontay had begun this season playing for the Motor City Cruise (G League affiliate of the Detroit Pistons).
Like his older brother Michael, Jontay was once a highly-touted recruit coming out of high school but experienced numerous injury setbacks. Jontay suffered back-to-back ACL tears in 2018 and 2019 and ultimately went undrafted in 2019. He landed a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies as a rookie but made just 11 total appearances for them before getting waived. Jontay has since been toiling away in the G League, averaging 16.8 points and 10.7 rebounds per contest for the Cruise over ten games this season.

Still just 24 years old, Jontay has upside as a versatile 6-foot-11 forward with 3-and-D ability. But this might fly under the radar since the city of Toronto is obviously awaiting news on a much bigger potential signing right now.
