The Golden State Warriors got the update they feared on Moses Moody after his freak injury Monday night.

Moody suffered a torn patellar tendon in his left knee, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. The injury will end his season, and likely cost him a significant portion of next year as well.

The update will not come as a surprise to anyone who saw the injury. Moody was going in for an uncontested dunk when his leg crumpled beneath him and he fell to the court (video here). His knee was visibly dislocated after he fell.

Moody’s injury is all the more cruel as he was having the best season of his career. The fifth-year guard was averaging 12.1 points per game on the season while shooting just over 40 percent from three-point range, and had seemingly established himself as a key component of the team’s future.

The Warriors have had a very rough go with injuries this season. Jimmy Butler also suffered a season-ending knee injury in January, while Steph Curry has not played since Jan. 30 due to a knee problem of his own.
