NBA considering moving back start of next season to December

The NBA has long considered moving back the start of its season to December and running it through the summer, and they now may have a good reason to do so.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski wrote an article published on Thursday about the NBA working through all the different possibilities for the present and future. Teams are hoping to resume the season in the near future, and they have a possible plan in place to play at Disney World.

One detail of note shared by Woj is that the league could push back the start of next season to December. In that scenario, the playoffs would run through July or August.

The CEO of the Atlanta Hawks said at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in March that he wanted to push the NBA calendar back by two months. The thinking was that beginning the season in December rather than October would allow the NBA to compete less with football and more with baseball, and therefore boost ratings.

If the NBA wants to make the leap, now would be the perfect time to do so.
