Nets owner fined for tweet calling out officials
The NBA is making some serious money off of critics of its officials during this year’s NBA Playoffs.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Brooklyn owner Joe Tsai was fined $35,000 over a tweet he sent that seemingly criticized the fairness of the officiating in the first-round series between his Nets team and the Philadelphia 76ers.

Tsai is a billionaire, so it’s unlikely that he’s going to miss that sum of money too much. In fact, he probably knew it was coming.
Displeasure over officiating has been a common theme in this series. General manager Sean Marks was suspended for entering the referee locker room after Game 4, reportedly because the team is convinced that Joel Embiid is getting off too lightly for perceived flagrant fouls. That is what prompted Tsai’s tweet, and he’s clearly taking his GM’s side on this one.
