Pau Gasol not sure if he will be back with Bulls next season

Pau Gasol

Pau Gasol once seemed to be happy being with the Chicago Bulls, but now it looks like his stay with the team will be a short one.

Chicago has been a disappointment this season, going 39-40 and looking like they will miss the playoffs. Gasol signed a two-year deal with the Bulls prior to last season, and his contract is coming up.

After a 106-98 loss to the Miami Heat on Thursday night, Gasol expressed his disappointment with the team and his future.

“Nothing is set right now,” Gasol said after the game. “Definitely, I will evaluate what I need to when the time comes. But the way the team has responded to adversity and the way we finished up the season has not been so far great, and it’s been disappointing. So at the end of the day, when the time comes, I will evaluate things. It’s hard to finish the season like this. It’s not finished, but we’re in a very, as we know, extremely difficult position, so everything will be thought of and considered.”

With Gasol’s contract expiring, he will be a free agent and able to choose his next team. You get the sense that he may end up leaving the Bulls after the season. That’s equally a disappointment for Chicago, as they were shopping Gasol before the trade deadline and kept him. Now they may lose him without getting any compensation in return.
