Rajon Rondo arrested on gun, marijuana charges
Former NBA point guard Rajon Rondo was arrested in Indiana on Sunday for unlawful possession of a firearm, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
According to a report from WDRB’s Jason Riley, local police in Jackson County, Ind. flagged down Rondo after he was seen committing a traffic violation. The officer ended up searching Rondo’s car after catching a whiff of marijuana within the vehicle.
Indiana State Police spokesperson reportedly said Monday that the arresting officer found a gun, a “personal use” amount of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in Rondo’s vehicle.
Rondo was brought to Jackson County Jail and was able to post bail immediately. All pending charges against Rondo are considered misdemeanors.
The 4-time NBA All-Star is currently not permitted to carry a firearm due to a no-contact order against him that is still in effect. The court mandate stemmed from a 2022 incident wherein Rondo allegedly pulled a gun on the mother of his two children.
Rondo last played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season. He averaged 4.8 points and 4.4 points per game across stints with the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers. Rondo is a 2-time NBA champion, winning a ring with the Celtics in 2008 and Lakers in 2020.
