Rudy Gobert takes subtle jab at Isaiah Thomas after trade

Isaiah Thomas

Isaiah Thomas was very outspoken in his attempts to recruit Gordon Hayward to the Celtics earlier this offseason, and he ended up getting his wish. But now that Thomas no longer plays for the team Hayward has signed with, one of Hayward’s former teammates seems to find the situation humorous.

After Thomas was traded from Boston to the Cleveland Cavaliers as part of the Kyrie Irving deal, Rudy Gobert was quick to remind everyone of how excited Thomas was when Hayward signed with the Celtics. Gobert retweeted the following tweet that Thomas sent on July 1:

That seems a bit low. It’d be one thing if Thomas recruited a player to his team and then signed elsewhere, but he had no idea he was going to be traded. Of course he was going to recruit players to Boston, and Hayward was one of the biggest prizes on the free agent market.

Gobert is probably just salty that Hayward ended up leaving the Utah Jazz, but that retweet was just lame. Thomas has faced a lot of unfair criticism since he was traded on Tuesday, which is why LeBron James took some time Thursday to defend his new teammate.
