Shai Gilgeous-Alexander needed a scorching fourth quarter to keep his historic points streak alive just three days after setting the new record.
Gilgeous-Alexander entered Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves with 127 consecutive games of 20 points or more, having secured the mark by passing Wilt Chamberlain on Thursday. Sunday, however, the streak looked like it was going to come to an end. The Oklahoma City Thunder star was stuck on 10 points with six minutes left in regulation, and with the Thunder nursing a 12-point lead, they did not exactly have to go all-out to score.
Gilgeous-Alexander did just that, though. He made two straight baskets, then knocked down a three with 3:17 to go. That put him on 17 points, and he was able to get to 20 on a three-point play with 1:46 to go.
And just like that, Shai has 20 points and continues his streak of 20 point consecutive games.

It was meant to be SGA 🔥 👀 https://t.co/JBwWl3XWfC pic.twitter.com/3ma50HFgZu
The Thunder did leave SGA in quite late in what wound up being a 16-point game when he was finally subbed out, so the team may have stuck with him a little longer than usual to give him the chance to preserve the streak. If so, it worked.
Gilgeous-Alexander found himself in a tough spot on a bad shooting day, as he went just 7-for-22 overall from the field. Regardless, the streak is still intact and now sits at 128 games.
Not all of Gilgeous-Alexander’s foes are impressed by his feats. Critics will probably have some things to say about how long he stayed in to keep this one going, but there is no arguing with the result.
