Ticket prices to watch Angel Reese against Fever without Caitlin Clark were so cheap

Angel Reese has suggested in the past that she and Caitlin Clark are equally responsible for the WNBA’s recent increase in popularity, but basic principles of supply and demand seem to indicate otherwise.

Reese and the Chicago Sky hosted the Indiana Fever on Saturday night, but Clark did not play because of a quad injury. Clark’s absence seems to have had a significant impact on ticket prices for the game.

As of Saturday morning, there were tickets available through third-party brokers that cost only $3.

That probably was not a coincidence.

Reese is a well-known player with millions of followers on social media, but much of her popularity stems from her feud with Clark. The two have a rivalry that dates back to when they played against one another in college.

Reese and Clark both came into the WNBA last year, and they have already had numerous run-ins on the court. But there is no question Clark is a much better player.

Though Reese may be right that she is one of the reasons people watch the WNBA, most of the interest surrounding her has to do with how much she hates Clark. On the court, the Sky forward is averaging 10.1 points and 12.1 rebounds per game. Reese has shot just 35.8% from the field this season, and many of her misses are on layup attempts. Reese’s own embarrassing misses have a direct impact on her rebound numbers.

Many fans would have attended Saturday’s game between the Sky and Fever just to see Clark, who is an outstanding shooter and one of the most exciting players in the game. Others were probably interested in seeing whether Clark and Reese got tangled up on the court again. It makes sense that ticket prices plummeted once Clark was ruled out.
