Adrien Broner was once considered Floyd Mayweather’s protege and the future of boxing, but a lot has changed since then.
Broner lost two fights, essentially ruining his chances of being the next Mayweather. Still, Floyd supported his friend and “little brother” despite the losses until recently.
In the fall chatter commenced that Broner would eventually fight Ashley Theophane, a boxer who is officially backed by Mayweather. One thing led to another, and Broner let loose on Mayweather’s crowd in October by essentially saying screw The Money Team. Mayweather took offense to Broner having negative words for his crew, and that’s where things really became fragmented.

In a recent interview posted on Fight Hype, Mayweather ripped Broner. He expressed disappointment with Broner for the humorous video where Broner threw his change at a Walmart. He also said Broner did not appreciate what Floyd had done for him.
“Some of these fighters, we spoil them too much. I’m being honest, me and Al (Haymon) together, we both spoil these fighters too much. A lot of them are appreciative, but a lot of them are not appreciative. You know, you got fighters that I’ve stood behind, like Adrien Broner. When he lost to Maidana, I was the first one to post a picture of me and him, and I told him, ‘You know what? I’m behind you. Hold your head up high. Stay focused and you’ll be able to bounce back.’ But then you have this same guy that I’m defending and standing behind and going to war for is the same guy that said, ‘You know what? I love my big brother Floyd Mayweather, but f— The Money Team!’ He’s the same guy that you can go on, if I’m not mistaken, my TMT website and see that he had on a Money Team shirt. And then you was in Vegas, he had on the Money Team sweatsuit. So I never really understood that.”
In a video filled with curse words that was posted to YouTube Tuesday, Broner got emotional and expressed his feelings in response to Mayweather. Here is the video. Keep in mind it has lots of bad language:
Broner has a point and I do believe him when he says he texted Floyd and hasn’t heard back.
Floyd has backed Broner, but Broner is a fool. It’s hard to support him. But it is hypocritical for Mayweather to criticize Broner for humorously throwing change in a Walmart when Floyd used to similarly flaunt his money to gain fame.
