Donald Trump says he will not attend Saturday night’s fight between Canelo Alvarez and Amir Khan, despite what Oscar De La Hoya wants us to believe.
De La Hoya, whose company promotes Alvarez, said on a conference call Wednesday that he received confirmation that Trump would be in attendance to christen the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. However, Trump told TMZ on Thursday that he has turned down De La Hoya’s invitation.
De La Hoya may have just been messing with Trump. He previously joked that Trump gave him the idea for the Alvarez-Khan fight being that it will pit a Mexican fighter against a Muslim fighter. You can read De La Hoya’s full sarcastic takedown of Trump here.
While we would not have been surprised if Trump seized the opportunity to get some publicity, it’s probably best if he sits this one out.
