Based on the amount of trash talk Manny Pacquiao’s camp has down towards Chris Algieri, you have to wonder whether they forgot how to sell a fight.
See, Pac-Man’s camp has done nothing but disparage Algieri leading up to the Nov. 22 fight between the two sides. They’ve said Algieri is not very good and that Pacquiao’s sparring partners are better.
And then you have Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, saying Algieri punches so lightly he couldn’t even break an egg.

“But on the the other side, he is not much of a puncher. Don’t think he could break an egg and he’s very hittable,” Roach has said of Algieri, via NJ.com. “As an opponent, that’s good for our side. I know [Algieri’s trainer] Tim Lane says he will hurt Manny — and hurt him bad. But I don’t see how or with what. He just doesn’t have any tools for that.”
It’s one thing to talk trash if both sides are established. Had Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather been fighting, slights from either camp would build more hype for a fight. Trash talking a nobody like Algieri gives people more of a reason NOT to buy a fight. It also sets expectations for Pacquiao way too high. He cannot lose now after everything his camp has said about how bad Algieri is.
