Bettors lost big on Joey Chestnut breaking his hot dog eating record

Joey Chestnut

Joey Chestnut defied the odds on Sunday by breaking his own world record at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contest, and very few gamblers had faith in him leading up to the event.

Chestnut ate a total of 76 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes, breaking the record of 75 he set a year ago. Most Sportsbooks set the over/under at somewhere between 73.5 and 75.5 According to Darren Rovell, almost none of the money at DraftKings Sportsbook was on Chestnut tying or breaking his previous record. Just 1 percent of the total handle was wagered on the over.

Apparently, the vast majority of people believed Chestnut peaked in 2020. They were wrong.

Chestnut’s performance was nothing shy of incredible, but unfortunately TV viewers missed a lot of it. ESPN had some serious technical difficulties during the 10-minute event. You can probably guess how Twitter reacted to that.

ESPN trolled over Hot Dog Eating Contest technical difficulties

Joey Chestnut

Joey Chestnut once again broke his own record at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on Sunday, but unfortunately viewers were unable to watch a significant portion of his incredible performance.

Chestnut ate 76 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes, breaking his world record of 75 from last year. ESPN’s coverage of the event cut out several times, however, including in the final seconds as Chesnut set the new record. Here’s what the technical difficulties looked like:

You can guess how Twitter handled it.

The win was Chestnut’s 14th at the Hot Dog Eating Contest. Obviously, the timing of the technical difficulties could not have been worse with such a short event.

Now, if Chestnut could only convince his biggest rival to make a comeback.

Video: Fan gets cozy with woman at cricket matchups

Cricket fan

Cricket fans can be extremely enthusiastic about their teams, but one particularly cheeky fan showed us during a match this weekend that he is passionate about something else as well.

A fan at a recent Middlesex cricket match was caught by TV cameras getting extremely, let’s call it cozy, with the woman he was sitting with. The woman leaned over to say something to the people sitting in the row behind her and got a nice “hi, how ya doin?” from the gentleman sitting next to her.

It’s hard to tell what was in that man’s cup, but I don’t think he needed anymore of it.

‘Free Dave Portnoy’ trends after Barstool Sports founder suspended from Twitter

Dave Portnoy

A hashtag saying “Free Dave Portnoy” trended on Twitter Friday after the Twitter account for Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy was suspended.

Portnoy has 2.5 million followers on the platform and is an influential figure. Here is how his account looked when it was suspended:

There was some speculation that a Twitter post led to the issue:

There was also speculation that there was some sort of inside publicity stunt after a photo of Portnoy and Twitter founder Jack Dorsey was shared.

An hour or so after the suspension, Portnoy’s Twitter feed started to repopulate. Portnoy also announced that he was “back.”

Maybe there really was nothing going on at all.

Aaron Carter says he has mild concussion after boxing loss to Lamar Odom

Aaron Carter Lamar Odom

Aaron Carter suffered some negative medical effects from his fight with Lamar Odom.

Carter posted a note on Instagram after his fight Friday night to say he suffered a “mild concussion.”

Here is what he wrote in the post:

“Mild concussion but f— it, it was worth it! Thank you (Celebrity Boxing) and Lamar Odom for such an amazing fight I appreciate you giving me your best! Thank you!” (post edited for profanity by LBS).

Carter and Odom fought in a Celebrity Boxing match at the Showboat Hotel in Atlantic City, N.J. Odom won via second-round knockout (watch here).

Carter seemed to enjoy the experience of having his head handed to him. He was fighting a man nearly a foot taller than him and couldn’t overcome the difference. It especially didn’t help that he gassed himself out early.

Carter’s post is included in the tweet below.

Video: Fan jumps over railing at Concacaf Final

Fan jumps railing

Something very concerning happened after the U.S. beat Mexico 3-2 in the Concacaf Nations League Final on Sunday night in Denver.

CBS Sports was running its postgame show live on set from Empower Field at Mile High, Denver, Colo. In the middle of the show, there was a bizarre incident. A fan ran behind the TV hosts and leaped over a railing.

It’s unclear how much of a drop there was over the railing. We also have no idea what led the person to make the leap. Here’s hoping there wasn’t anything too serious going on.
