A press conference involving members of Karmelo Anthony’s family was delayed Thursday after Austin Metcalf’s father unexpectedly showed up for it.
Anthony’s family was slated to hold a news conference in Dallas to discuss the criminal case against Anthony, who has been accused of fatally stabbing fellow 17-year-old Metcalf in the chest following an altercation between them at a high school track meet in Frisco. According to TMZ, that news conference was delayed when Jeff Metcalf, Austin’s father, arrived and appeared among media members just moments before the event was slated to begin.
Anthony’s lawyers did not want the Metcalfs and the Anthonys in the same room and asked Metcalf to leave. He initially refused, and Dallas police were ultimately called.

Jeff Metcalf ultimately did leave, and the news conference was able to begin, albeit after a delay.
Anthony is facing charges of first-degree murder for allegedly stabbing Austin Metcalf at a track meet on April 2. According to police, Anthony has admitted to stabbing Metcalf, but has suggested he was acting in self-defense.
Anthony’s family has raised a significant amount of money online on behalf of the alleged murderer. They have also reportedly moved into a gated community for their own safety.
