Florida Gators fans were upset with the behavior displayed by Texas Longhorns freshman Jonah Williams on Friday night.
The Gators beat the Longhorns 8-2 in the first of three games between the teams at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin, Texas. Texas was down 8-1 in the bottom of the 7th inning and had one out with a runner on first. Williams was up and not about to concede victory.
Williams had strong reactions to every ball that was thrown. He was pumping himself up, pumping up his teammates, and seemed to be taunting the opposing pitcher.
After he had earned a base on balls, Williams flung his bat aside and nodded his head — a celebration typical of someone who had delivered a big hit.
This dude Jonah Williams has to be the lamest dude is baseball.

Down 8-1 chirping after every pitch. pic.twitter.com/k0PhrC8UZ3
Florida fans did not like the behavior. They thought the Gators should have sent Williams a message.
We’ve got two more games to fix that problem.

Was that a bat flip after a walk 😝?

Drill him in the head with a fastball. Oh, sorry. I grew up in the 80’s when dudes were actually tough instead of social media divas.

Williams also plays defensive back for Texas’ football team. So if his behavior seemed more befitting of a football player, that would explain why.
Maybe taking his at-bats so seriously has helped Williams. On Saturday, he delivered a bases-clearing double.

Was Williams’ behavior over-the-top? Did it make a lot of sense with his team down by seven? Maybe not, but if you’re looking for someone to help get a rally started, that’s how to do it.
