Oregon State is going to be keeping things within the Beavers family for their next head baseball coach, according to reports.
The Beavers are expected to hire Mitch Canham as their next head coach, D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers first reported. The Oregonian since confirmed the news.
Canham, 34, played at Oregon State and was part of their back-to-back championship teams in 2006 and 2007. He became the No. 57 overall pick by the Padres in 2007 and played professionally through 2015, making it as high as Triple-A. Canham is currently a Double-A manager in the Seattle Mariners’ organization.
Oregon State has become one of the premier college baseball programs in the country. They have made the College World Series six times since 2005, including three straight appearances while Canham was in school (2005-2007). They have won three championships, including last year’s title.
Pat Casey was the program’s head coach from 1995-2018 but took the year off after winning the championship last year. Pat Bailey led the program on an interim basis this season. Casey recently decided not to return next season, leading the program to conduct a search that has led them to Canham.
