Ed Cooley gets technical foul for throwing chair during timeout (Video)
Providence got hosed by the referees at the end of their first-round NCAA Tournament loss to Dayton Friday, as head coach Ed Cooley was called for a technical foul after knocking over a chair during a timeout.
The technical foul was called when Dayton was leading 50-42 with 3:42 left. The Flyers went 1-for-2 on the technical free throws to go up 51-42, and they won the game 66-53.
Though the technical foul call was silly, it goes to show you that coaches who demand players keep their composure also need to hold themselves to the same standard. And had Cooley known that was going to result in a technical, he probably would have gone all Fran McCaffery to really get his money’s worth.
