The Connecticut women’s basketball team has faced a rather strange barrage of criticism from some circles in recent days over their total dominance of the women’s game, and their Twitter account is hitting back.
The UConn women defeated Mississippi State 98-38 in the Sweet Sixteen, and Shaughnessy, the often pessimistic Boston Globe columnist, accused them of “killing” the women’s game due to the lack of competitiveness and said he wouldn’t want to watch it.
UConn Women beat Miss St. 98-38 in NCAA tourney. Hate to punish them for being great, but they are killing women's game. Watch? No thanks

The official team Twitter account had a rebuttal.

Coach Geno Auriemma had his own response, taking a shot at Shaughnessy in the process.

Auriemma’s Tiger Woods comparison is a pretty great one, and at the end of the day, nobody is forcing Shaughnessy to sit down and watch. Many people will, because people enjoy seeing dominant athletes at the peak of their powers. Auriemma might also point out that, in his opinion, the men’s game isn’t exactly all that great.
