The last undefeated team in college basketball has suffered its first loss, and at the worst possible time.
The Miami (Ohio) RedHawks entered the Mid-American Conference tournament with a perfect 31-0 record. But, No. 8 seed UMass stunned the Redhawks with an 87-83 win at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio.
It is the first loss of the season for the RedHawks, and now they face serious questions about whether or not they will make the NCAA Tournament as an at-large team.

Miami (Ohio) barely survived in the MAC regular-season finale. The RedHawks defeated the Ohio Bobcats 110-108 in overtime on the road, and opposing fans threw trash as the RedHawks players were taunting the student section after a dramatic finish.
Miami (Ohio) also defeated Western Michigan and Toledo in the two games prior, with both wins coming by two points.
Miami (Ohio) has quickly become the biggest story in college basketball, and despite its weak schedule (zero Quad 1 wins and just two Quad 2 wins), the RedHawks are now facing a long week going into Selection Sunday.
UMass entered with a 16-15 record and a 7-11 mark in MAC play, and Miami (Ohio) losing in the first round of the conference tournament in a huge stunner.
Now, Miami (Ohio) will have to hope that the Selection Committee views their 31 wins as a merit to get an at-large bid over programs such as Texas and Auburn.
